In 1972, a small HVAC service company opened its doors in Liverpool, New York, a small town on the shore of Onondaga Lake. Fifty-four years later, PASCO Building Automation Systems keeps schools, hospitals, plants, and offices comfortable through Central New York winters, where Syracuse alone averages about 128 inches of snow. On June 30, 2026, PASCO joined Albireo Energy.
The partnership pairs a regional team with deep local roots and a national building controls provider with the resources to help it grow. PASCO keeps its people and its customer relationships. What changes is the size of the work it can take on.
Five Decades of Building Automation in Upstate New York
PASCO’s story closely follows the story of building automation itself. The company started out servicing boilers and chillers. When digital controls began to replace pneumatic systems in the late 1980s, PASCO moved early and became an Alerton dealer in 1988.
The timing was fortuitous. A year earlier, an ASHRAE committee had begun work on BACnet, an open standard that lets building equipment from different manufacturers share information.
Alerton released the first BACnet product line in 1996, and PASCO helped bring open-protocol automation to buildings across New York State. Fittingly, one of the standard’s early leaders came from PASCO’s own region. Mike Newman of Cornell University chaired the BACnet committee until 2000.
Now 42 employees strong, PASCO designs, installs, and services Alerton and Distech systems throughout Syracuse, Rochester, Albany, Buffalo, and the surrounding region. The team serves commercial, education, healthcare, government, and industrial facilities.
Why PASCO Chose Albireo Energy
In May 2026, PASCO President Jeff Munn marked 40 years with the company.
The milestone turned his attention to the future. “My priority was finding the right succession plan, one that would preserve the culture and legacy we’ve built while creating new opportunities for the incredible team that has made PASCO what it is today,” Munn said.
When Albireo Energy reached out in 2025, Munn already knew the company through their shared work with Distech. As the two sides talked, he said, it “became clear that our values, customer-first approach, and long-term vision were closely aligned.”
What the Partnership Means for PASCO Customers
For years, PASCO’s growth had a ceiling.
“PASCO is a significant player in Upstate NY. However, we were unable to pursue very large projects due to bonding capacity and bandwidth,” Munn said. “Albireo Energy solves this problem.”
A contractor’s bonding capacity is the total value of surety bonds it can secure to guarantee its work, and it caps the size of a project a firm can bid. With Albireo Energy’s backing, PASCO can now pursue larger, more complex work in data centers, healthcare, and biopharmaceutical facilities.
Customers also gain access to Albireo Energy’s Managed Services Center and its Intelligent Services: alarm management, private cloud hosting, as well as fault detection and diagnostics.
The Next Chapter for Upstate New York Buildings
In many ways, PASCO’s next chapter reads like its last one. The same local team will answer the phone, bringing the same Alerton and Distech expertise to the buildings it has cared for over decades. The difference is the national partner now standing behind that team.
